Weekend come and weekend go…(MIMM)

So, I don’t know where the past three days went, but they just literally FLEW by.  I can’t even believe it’s Monday afternoon already!  This weekend was so busy and over before way too quickly!  I know it’s late, but I can’t help but do a little “catch up” and share some highlights of the weekend and what life has been like lately.  Sharing some goods for Marvelous in my Monday!

Friday night was a chill night.  Scott and I got to relax together while we did our fantasy football draft.  My brother is the manager of the league and it’s been a couple years since I did fantasy football…so I was happy to give it another go.  This is my second time and I think it will be a fun thing to do together as a family, since Scott, my brother and his wife are all a part of it, with a few other friends, too.  After the draft was done, my brother and his wife came over to spend some time together.  It’s their one year anniversary already and they were leaving for the weekend, so it was nice spending a quiet evening in with them.  It was so simple, but such a great time!

Saturday, Scott had made plans to help a friend of his mom’s with some bathroom repairs, so I had a good part of the day pretty much to myself.  I got a good morning workout in, spent some quality time snuggling with the kitties.  They love the balcony!  Meeko used to be so scared being out there, but now she loves it 🙂

then took myself out of the house and down to the lake to get some coffee at my favorite coffee place, Colectivo, which is right by the lake.  I couldn’t have timed it any more perfect, it started to pour within just a couple minutes of me getting inside.  All the people that were sitting outside ran inside but I was able to get a small little table to myself before they got in.  It was so cozy and I had such a nice time just reading.

I then made my way to the mall to try and find some deal my mom had told me about at Bath & Body Works.  Sadly, they didn’t have the deal I was hoping for..but I went in a few other stores while I was there before making my way home.  Since it was Labor Day weekend and since Scott and I are in need of a washer and dryer for our new place, I had the idea to check out the stores to see if they had any deals or sales going on.  The weather was so crazy on Saturday, between raining and sunshine on and off, on our way to Sears, we saw this pretty FULL rainbow…I can’t remember the last time I saw a full rainbow!  So pretty!

We spent the rest of the afternoon at Sears and found a washer and dryer that we liked which was on sale, so bonus 🙂  After our little excursion, we headed back home for an evening in.  I had plans to run to the grocery store to get a couple things and saw how gorgeous the sky/sunset was, so I drove around for quite a while, just enjoying the beautiful views.  It was completely impulsive and I had a blast.

The rest of the evening consisted of Breaking Bad.  Not a bad way to end the day.  Sunday was a lazy morning, followed by a workout, and then lots and lots of packing!  I actually hate to say it, but I kind of like some of the packing/organizing/throwing away of things.  It feels good to get rid of things.  The apartment is a bit of a mess though…which makes me a little anxious (just because it’s so chaotic) but I know that we’re making progress, slowly but surely.

Sunday literally flew by.  Before we knew it, it was time to call it a day with the packing, and get ourselves ready to head out the door.  A friend of mine is in a band and they were playing at a campground pretty close to home, so we decided to go for the show and then stay overnight camping out.  Plus, we decided to bring Max with us.  It was a blast for him.  The show was great

…but sleeping the rest of the night was awful.  As in, I had a hard time falling asleep, I was hot then cold, kept waking up at any noise or passing car’s lights, and Scott woke up sick two times overnight.  So needless to say, after getting about 4.5 hours of sleep, it wasn’t the best night.  We got up early and made our way back home.  Scott was out of commission essentially the whole day, but I don’t know how I got done everything that I did with just 4.5 hours of sleep!  I got a workout in first thing, then start packing and organizing things in the apartment, got laundry done, went grocery shopping, got meal prep done and still had time to snag some pictures of the cats.  🙂

I finally got to relax for the evening and enjoyed my night with Scott.  Luckily, he started to feel better by the afternoon, so it was nice enjoying our last few moments of the long weekend together.

Happy short work week! 😀

Keep those good times comin’ (MIMM)

Oy, I can’t even believe we’re almost half-way through the month of AUGUST.  Where did this summer go?  It seems like we just started to get nice, warm weather here and it won’t be around for much longer!  Boo. 😦  But, I have been trying to spend as much time as I can outside and enjoying the weather.  It’s tough when you work a full-time job that’s in an office and then have other errands to do after work in the evening, but I still try and take advantage of whatever opportunity I can.  So, I thought I’d share some of the highlights of the past week/weekend with you for this weeks Marvelous in my Monday.

The evenings during the week have become really busy and occupied with things relating to finding a place and moving…but Wednesday night Scott and I had made plans to do something fun and get our minds off of house-hunting and moving.  In browsing who was coming to the state fair this year, I saw Peter Frampton’s name as one of the headliners.  Now I have zero knowledge of any of the songs or the music he makes, but I remember that Scott had mentioned liking him.  So when I saw that he was coming, I mentioned it to Scott to see if he’d like to go.  He was SO surprised and happy to hear that he was coming and immediately said ‘YES’!  (This is a rare thing, guys.  Scott is more of a follower of a song versus a follower of an artist, and doesn’t have many artists that he really likes.  But Peter Frampton he does really like and when he jumped at the chance to see him in concert, I knew he meant business! 😉 )

So we purchased some upper track seats for the grandstand earlier on and made our way down to the state fair park Wednesday evening.  The weather was absolutely perfect.  I may have commented on just how perfect the weather was about ohh 10 or more times 😛  But it was the best night temperature-wise and it felt so great to be outside!!  Survivor was opening for Peter Frampton, so we got to hear some of their songs, too.  Again, I’m not at all familiar with them, but I think me and the rest of the world knows the one song that they did, ‘Eye of the Tiger’.  If you’ve ever seen any of the 10+ Rocky movies you know what song this is.  (Ok, I know there aren’t 10, but there are a lotttt)

We had some loud mouths next to us for Survivor, so during the little intermission before Petey (as I jokingly called him to Scott, pretending he was my ‘good pal’) came on, we welcomed the opportunity to get up a bit and walk around.  We were able to find my favorite little place out of the whole fair while enjoying a beautiful sunset.

Yep, as some of you know I am a huge HUGE fan of kettle corn, as in, this is often the only reason why I will make a trip to the fair.  Usually we get at least a couple bags, and tonight was no different!  Mmm.  Nothing like kettle corn made straight from the kettle!  After getting our goods, we made our way back to the grandstand and still had some time before the concert, so we sat a little far off to the side from where our normal seats were.  We were approached by some random guy who said “Is it just you two?”  We kind of looked at each other, and then looked back at him and answered that it was just the two of us.  He then asked if we wanted to upgrade our tickets to the front row.  We were like…what’s the catch here and how much do we have to pay?!  He said he was Petey’s manager and had two extra front row tickets for the show…free of charge! The only thing we had to do was have a crazy fun time, dance during the show, no texting or talking on our phones, and no pictures after the third song.  We agreed, grabbed our front row tickets and made our way down front!  We still couldn’t believe that this was legit, and happening to US, out of nowhere!  Things like this never happen to us!  But sure enough, we had FRONT AND CENTER SEATS!  There were two other couples up there who had the same thing happen to them and couldn’t believe it either.  Even though I’m not familiar with Petey and his music, this was going to be a fun experience! We got a few more instructions from his manager, and then the show started!

The show was actually a lot of fun and my oh my is Petey talented!  WOW!  I had no idea.  For being in his 60s, he sure can still put on a really awesome show.  Definitely a fun night!

I also got this awesome package in the mail this week…I ordered the new tank that just came out last week!  Definitely loving it.

I happily took the day off on Friday, so my week was short which was really nice.  My mom had used some vacation time this week from work, so I asked if they’d want to spend the afternoon together and they jumped at the chance to do so!  I spent the morning slowly waking up, which just felt so nice!  Then I met up with my parents and we went to Cedarburg, a super cutesy town nearby where we live, and got lunch at Cream & Crepe and then walked around the town and checked out some of the shops.

My parents are just the cutest.  I had such a good time with them.  I love my parents to pieces…we just don’t have enough quality time together, but that is something that we all would like to see changed, so I think we’ll have many more of the cute little dates together coming up 🙂  After we got back, I worked out a bit, made some dinner, and finished up a blog that I had started earlier in the day.  Then I decided to pick myself up, and move myself down to the lake since Scott was doing some things at his mom’s house in the evening.  The weather was so nice…and it was just perfect to do some reading.

Saturday morning I woke up relatively early, but had the chance to relax a bit and wake up slowly, which was nice.  Scott and I had two appointments in the morning to go check out a couple places.  Both the places we saw seem like viable options for us! Of course, though, there are a few drawbacks.  1) The first place we saw, which we really loved, was just a little more expensive than we were hoping to spend per month and 2) the second place was a little far away from where we both work and the kitchen was a little cramped (which is one of the things we currently have where we are at now, and said we NEVER wanted to have again!)  So we’ll see.  The first place is a 3 bedroom unit, and we have no need for that much space, and also it’s the reason it’s more costly, so we contacted them after the fact to see if there were any 2 bedroom units left for renting.  We’ll see what we find out, and in the meantime we’ll try discussing our options and see what we think might work best.

My afternoon plans fizzled out but I wanted to make use of the time I had to myself since Scott was again busy.  I went out to read again…which was really nice.  The weather couldn’t have been anymore perfect than it was.  Just beautiful!!  I loved just laying in the grass and reading.  (And I sported my new top, too!)

The rest of the day was pretty chill and pretty uneventful.  But in the evening Scott and I had a pretty good talk about some things that have been weighing on my mind lately, which actually was really nice.  Sometimes my mind goes 1000 miles an hour and it’s nice to just get those thoughts out and get a more rational approach on things from someone else.

Sunday, I completely failed to take like any pictures of my day.  I had a really really great morning!  I got to see one of my best friends who I haven’t seen in FOREVER and it just felt so good to be reunited with her again (AND she is back to stay in Milwaukee for at least two years!!)  When you find someone who just accepts you for you, and just makes life better, it’s a treasure you can’t simply let go of…and I’m so glad our friendship has stuck through good and bad times.

Sunday afternoon was a bit rough for me, but fortunately I had Scott there to pick me up a bit and I was able to talk to a few other friends about what I was struggling with, which really helped.  After that, my mood definitely improved and I felt a new sense of hope and strength.  I ran errands and got food and meals ready for the start of the new week and the evening was just spent with Scott and my kitties, which is EXACTLY the night I needed.  Ready to tackle a new week and keeping optimistic that it will be a good one!  Much love ❤

take me out to the ball game x 2…and the zoo

I am so glad that it’s time for some Marvelous talk for the week.  Earlier in the week things were NOT at all going well and I had a pretty rough week.  I will save all the ‘meh’ not so marvelous things for another post in the future, but for now I will share some of the highlights I did have and focus on those happy, positive moments!  My favorite link-up of the week and one I do my best never to miss!

Friday was our company tailgate party and Brewers’ game outing.  We got to leave work early (at 3) to hang out on our back patio and eat and drink and socialize.  I’d like to say that I was very productive up until that point, but let’s be honest here, I definitely was not.  I think up until about noon I did a pretty good job of actually getting real work done.  But, shortly after that I was commissioned to make a decorative box to hold napkins since it was a bit on the windy side and they’d blow away.  I made a blue and yellow decorative box.  Nothing fancy, but I did the best I could with just a box, tape and table covers.  After my box was made, I helped chop up some fresh fruit…set up the tables outside and then before I knew it, the day was over.  Not a bad way to end the week.

That was about half way through.  I know it doesn’t look too impressive now but I made an awesome blue and yellow checkered pattern when it was all said and done.  Not too shabby.  Plus, it was fun.  I was so into the box making that I totally neglected to watch the time…so I ran down to the cafeteria and got my lunch to eat while I worked on the box.  The weather was absolutely awesome (thankfully!) and I chatted with some co-workers before Scott, my brother and sister-in-law (the guests I invited along) showed up.  Then it was time to eattttt!  There was so much food!  I got a good starter plate and then Scott and I shared some cookies after 😉

Plus, as you can see in the picture, there were plenty of drinks, too.  The spread was pretty sweet.  The food was delicious.  We loaded up the bus to head down to the stadium for the game!  They gave away free t-shirts at the game, so that was pretty sweet.  We ended up losing 😦 but it was still a really good game!  We all had a really fun time!  Took some silly pictures, too 🙂

We also got a long island and got this cute little cup. I’ve been obsessed with it ever since and I am using it for pretty much anything and everything.  Milk, soda, cereal…you name it.  It’s too cute!

Saturday morning I got up bright and early.  I didn’t get to bed until 2 am (we got home late from the game and then I needed some wind down time) and woke up shortly after 7.  So, I decided I’d get a workout in since that was the rest of the day was really booked up.  It felt good to start off the day that way.  I may try and make that a new thing…  After my workout, I showered and had a little time to sit and drink coffee before Scott and I had something to tend to in the morning.  We’ve been trying to make some progress with the religious side of our lives and met up with a couple that have been helping answer some questions and cultivate a stronger relationship with God.  The weather was gorgeous so we spent as much time outside in the sun as possible!

We got home around 12:30, I quickly made some lunch and then my brother and sister-in-law came to pick me up to go to the zoo!  Scott had some things to work on at his mom’s place, so he skipped out.  But we sure had a fun time and the weather was PERFECT.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather!

We got to pet some sting rays and sharks, too at their special exhibit.  It was a fun time.  We quickly got our tooshies heading home to meet up with Scott.  Friday at work I entered a raffle to win four free tickets for the Saturday night Brewers’ game and I won!  We picked Scott up, went to Panda Express for dinner…It was really good!  I hadn’t been there in so long!

Then made our way down to the stadium.  We all wore our shirts that we got the night before.  The game was awesome!  They were down and it wasn’t looking too good, but then they really came back at the end and ended up being up 4 to 2 heading into the 9th inning where they were able to hold them from scoring!  What a great game and fun night.

The game started at 6:15, which is about an hour earlier than it usually does…but that worked out great since we got home at a reasonable time.  Scott and I just spent the evening relaxing and watching Parks n Rec.  Great day.

Sunday started similarly to Saturday for me.  I slept a bit longer than the previous night but was still up early.  So I decided to do another morning workout and got it out of the way for the day.  It was great!  I definitely like starting my day off that way.  It just puts me in a great mood for the day.  Scott and I enjoyed some time out on the balcony soaking up the gorgeous weather.  We talked about our upcoming trip to Colorado!  It is coming SOO fast…just a couple weeks away now!  YIPPIE!  So we decided it was time to start planning where we’d go specifically and the things we may need to bring with us.  The kitties also joined us… 😉  Meeko came out on her own!  She had only been out there one other time with me and she was a little skittish, so it was nice to see that she’s getting a bit more comfortable with it.

The rest of the day was laundry, grocery shopping, church, food prep for the week and baking some banana bread bars.  One of my favorite recipes and super easy to make.  It was the perfect quiet end to the weekend which I REALLY wanted after being busy for the rest of the weekend.  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, too!

Life’s about living (MIMM)

Ahh I am so sad to see this weekend come to a close!  I knew it was going to be a fast, whirlwind of a weekend and it definitely was!  But I had such a great weekend.  I guess the fun ones always go fastest, right?  I’ll share some of my weekend highlights with you to celebrate the start of a new week and spread some marvelous Monday spirit!

First off, after having had a really crummy week at work the prior week, this past week had been an absolutely wonderful week for me.  I was feeling a little down about my job and was doubting myself and whether it was a good fit for me, but I definitely had a huge rebound this week.  Every day I got so much done and felt so much more confident about my files and the decisions I was making.  It felt great!

We also had our first “warm” day or two of the season.  We got into the mid 50s and upper 40s for a few days.  It was such a welcome!  I went outside on my lunch break one day and just chilled in my car, soaking up the sunshine (with the windows down!) and wrote.  I used to do that all of the time last year.  Can’t wait to do it again!

After having gone to the Mitchell Park Domes for their Music Under the Glass concert series last Thursday night with my brother and my sister in law, and finding out that they had Irish music for St. Patrick’s Day weekend, I asked the hubby if he would come along with me this time.  It was a fun night!  They were SO packed!  I guess everyone had the same idea…

Friday night we also had plans!  I found a really fun, quirky event for us to go to.  I’ve heard of the Brew City Bruisers before, but never had a chance to ever go see them!  They are Milwaukee’s Roller Derby Girls.  I’ve heard stories of these girls being extremely aggressive while skating and wanted to see what all the hype was about.  I mentioned it to Scott and he was totally on board with it, too.  I love that he is totally open to trying different, quirky things with me!  I invited one of my best friends along with us, too!  At first we had absolutely NO idea what was going on…but we whipped out our phones, did a little research on the rules of roller derby-ing, and eventually we were actually able to really get into it!

All the different ‘players’ have these crazy, quirky names, too.  Some examples: Becky the Butcher, Anita Bier, Lacy/DC, D’Amanda Beating, Sorah Bones, and Carrie A. Hacksaw.  There were so many more!  We decided that I am going to become a roller derby girl.  I came up with my name, too!  I literally thought of it within a minute…Donna Matrix. 😉

It ended up being a really fun night.  Definitely an experience I’ve never had before!

I have been having the absolute HARDEST time sleeping lately.  My little Meeko, cute as can be, is a terror in the night/early morning hours.  She is so rambunctious that she makes so much noise if we let her in our room while we’re sleeping.  I eventually have to kick her out.  But then, after we close her out of the room, she will meow SO loudly and try to claw her way under the door that I eventually open the door to let her in.  Then the cycle continues again.  I don’t know what to do with her.  She is just sooo loud!  I got only about 5.5 or 6 hours of sleep Friday night.  AND I had my long run to knock out Saturday morning, too.  10 Miles!  My first double-digit run ever.

I wasn’t feeling too confident about it, especially since my stomach was feeling a little icky, but I wanted to at least give it a go.  And surprisingly, it went a lot smoother than I thought it would.  I kept it slow and steady, and by the time I got to mile 8 (which last time when I was running 9 miles was my ‘dead zone’, I found that I felt stronger than ever.  I actually could have gone even longer, but didn’t want to overdo it, and because I was running low on time, too.  But I knocked out my ten miles!  YAYAY!

Sweaty, happy Elise!  I quickly stretched a bit, then jumped in the shower and got myself ready.  I had plans to go down to Milwaukee’s lakefront with my brother and my sister-in-law and didn’t have much time to get ready.  But I made it happen!  I was really looking forward to spending time with them.  They invited me Friday night, and although I had my long run in the morning and snow tubing with friends scheduled at night, I really wanted to go.  So I said yes!

We roamed around down by the lake.  All of the ice on the lake had pretty much melted after our few warm days.  There was so much ice on the beach yet though.  It was a chilly day, but not too bad with the sun and walking around quite a bit.  We stopped to warm ourselves up at Colectivo.  The building is an old water pump building, which is really cool.  We got some tea and a delicious fig-date bar.  On our way back to the car, we saw this…

This guy was practicing his…tightrope walking skills?!  I swear, sometimes you just see the quirkiest things in Milwaukee!  He was actually pretty good, though! 🙂

After we walked all over the place, we made our way home.  I got back around 5:15 or so…folded up some laundry and sat down for just a little while…then I had to start getting my things together for our plans for the evening.  We were meeting up at around 7 to head to the place we were going snow tubing.  I definitely crammed a lot of physical activity into one day…but they were all things I really wanted to do!  The worst part was getting me to drag my toosh out into the cold.  I just got in and the idea of staying in the warmth of my apartment was really tempting.  I almost didn’t go…but knew I’d regret it if I didn’t.  So I made myself go!  It was two hours of snow tubing and all you can drink draft beer.  I’m definitely not a huge drinker, but the others definitely love their beer, so it worked out well for them!

That fire was our best friend.  The colder it got, the more we gravitated to the heat.  The wind was just soooo chilly!  Brrrr!

CAM01643 CAM01648

I was so completely exhausted by the end of the night (in a good way!)  I had such a fun day, and got so much all crammed into one day, yet surprised myself with just how much energy I had.  I didn’t tire out until about 9:45, and that was only because it was so dang cold outside!  I couldn’t wait to get home, take a nice hot shower, and snuggle up on the couch under the blankets!  It felt sooo good!!!

Sunday ended up being a pretty chill day.  I went for a six-mile run, did laundry, went grocery shopping, and went to church.  In the evening, I stopped by my parents for a while, then spent the rest of the evening with Scott and my little kitties.  It was such a good weekend!  I wouldn’t mind having another day or two off yet…

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and have a marvelous Monday! ❤

What a Year It’s Been! (Recap of 2013)

I thought for this week’s Marvelous in my Monday hook-up being hosted by Katie, I would do something a little different than my usual.  Usually I do a recap of some of the highlights of my past week or so, and share all the good things that happened.  This time, I thought I’d share some of the highlights of the past year since (I still can’t believe it) the year is almost over already!!

The very beginning of 2013 got off to a fun and exciting start!  For the end of 2012, Scott and I went down to South Carolina and Georgia.  We spent some time with some friends of his and on New Years Eve we went to the orange bowl in Atlanta to see Clemson play LSU.  It was my first Clemson/college game and wow did I pick a good one to go to!  We won the game in the final seconds and it was the most exciting experience EVER!

We had the chance to get all ready for the game at the fan party beforehand.  What better way to get ready for the game then to get our face painted!?  (Although Scott does look a little creepy ;))

We had a celebratory New Years kiss!  It was a great way to ring in the New Year!

Immediately after getting home, that very week, I got my first (and only, for now!) tattoo!  I had thought of the idea of what I wanted quite a long time before I got it…it was just a matter of figuring out what design I wanted it to be and where I was going to get it done.  I eventually found the design that I liked the most and after doing some research, I found the place and the artist I wanted to do it.  I went to Rockstar Tattoo & Co.

And this was what I got! 😀

PicMonkey Collage

What exactly is it? Well, other than the obvious: a bird.  Well it’s a phoenix, actually.  The story of the phoenix captivated me when my co-worker told me about it.  The phoenix, in Greek mythology, is a bird that is continuously reborn.  The phoenix is reborn out of the ashes of it’s predecessor (thank you wikipedia for your thorough explanation)  So for me, I viewed it for personally.  I equated myself to the phoenix.  No matter what trials and hardships I face in my life, even if they leave me completely and entirely broken down and “dead”, I will come back, stronger than before and feel ‘reborn’.  It would serve as a constant reminder that I am stronger than any challenge put before me and I will always bounce back from any struggle I face.  I loved the idea of the tattoo.  So I had no doubts about getting it.  I got it on my right side up over my ribs.  It was a teeeeeensy (and when I say teensy, I really mean EXTREMELY) awkward when I got it, because it’s placement made it necessary for my boob to be pretty much exposed while I was getting my tattoo done.  Fortunately, my tattoo guy had a separate room, instead of being out in the main tattoo shop…so only three people got a glimpse 😉  Eek.  Note to self: next time think my outfit choice through a little bit more before going.  I tried to come up with something that would work well, but I still failed!

In March, Scott and I went to one of the best shows we have ever seen before.  I heard of Lindsey Stirling through a friend and fell in love with her music right away.  She plays violin but it’s so not your normal, “classical” violin.  I heard she was coming to Milwaukee and thought maybe it’d be cool to see her live, so we got tickets.  Best.Decision.Ever.  She was not only amazing musically, but she dances around while playing and puts on such an amazing show!  We were both so impressed!  (P.S. She’s coming back to Milwaukee this year again and we already decided we’re going again!!)

In April, Scott and I went down to Chicago to see MAROON 5!  This was one concert I really REALLY wanted to go to!  Ah it was such a highlight!  We went down early to check out the city, which was also really fun.  Sadly, I did not bring my camera in because I thought it was ILLEGAL.  So I didn’t get any pictures.  I realized just how dumb that decision was when everyone was taking pictures.  😦

On May 25th, my brother and I took my parents out for their anniversary to the symphony.  It was their first time going (and ours, too, for that matter) and it was a really awesome experience.  It was probably the best anniversary gift we could have got them (second to the waffle-maker I got them years ago which they still rave about to this day telling me how it was the best gift they ever got :D)

The weekend of June 8, I went up to Merrill to visit a friend of mine that I met in treatment for my eating disorder.  We had SUCH a fun time!  We did breakfast, roaming around some towns, hiking and…..It was my first time ever riding a horse!  We went to a rodeo, too, and camped out in her trailer in her parent’s backyard.  Such a fun time!  The perfect little getaway!

June 15 was Milwaukee’s Rock n Sole run.  Scott (and I) signed up to do the quarter marathon.  Sadly, I was in a bad place with my recovery and I was unable to do the run, but I did go and supported Scott.  The weather was definitely not ideal with the rain, but the rain ended up stopping and the coolness ended up being welcomed for the runners.  I was so proud of him!  It was his first official race and he did a great job.  🙂

scott pre run smiling! winner!

Every year, my company does a Brewers game tailgating outing.  So when we got the email letting us know that the game was coming up, I jumped at the chance to go again.  June 21 was the game and we all had a really fun time.  Fortunately, I work with some pretty fun people…and we are able to invite friends and family, too.  So Scott came along with me. 🙂

2012-06-21 20.29.07

We can be pretty crazy sometimes…

2012-06-21 20.29.24

The end of June came around, which in Milwaukee means one thing….the beginning of Summerfest!   Guys, in all my 23 years of living in Wisconsin, I never once went to Summerfest.  This year, I finally went!  A group of friends headed down to see Imagine Dragons.  I quickly realized why I hadn’t gone the 23 years that I’ve lived in Wisconsin.  haha.  It was totally not my scene (i.e. a bunch of drunken under-aged people throwing up all over and being rude pushing you) but at least I can say that I finally went!

us and yoda summerfest

The middle of July, Scott and I flew down to Miami!  Again, another first for me.  I had never been to Miami (or Florida at all) up til then.  Scott was standing up in a wedding of a friend of his that he’s known since high school (actually the same person we rung in the new year with down in Atlanta at the Clemson vs. LSU game) It was a really fun time.  We got to see a lot of Scott’s friends and spend time with them again which was really nice.  It was sadly a really short trip for us, but still a really rewarding one.

The end of July in Wisconsin was full of fairs and concerts.  I got to see Darius Rucker with my brother and my parents.  It was a really good show and we had a great time together.  Although, the weather was pretty cool for the end of July.

This was the very next day…I went to see Daughtry with Scott.  Keep in mind…it was the END of July…

August 9, I went on a trip with my brother out to LA to meet up with his fiancee, Jessa, who was flying to America from the Philippines!!  This was such a fun trip and I was so excited to meet her!  I instantly knew I would get along with her really well.  She was the sweetest, kindest, most appreciative girl.  She instantly made her way into my heart.  I knew my brother did a great job picking her out 🙂

The end of August I went to see KESHA!  That was one concert I was super excited about!  What an awesome show.  Definitely would see her again!

Just a few days after the concert, Scott and I went up to Green Bay to go to a Packers preseason game.  It was Scott’s first “game” at Lambeau Field.  He had been there for Family Fun Night, but not an actual game.  Although it wasn’t an “official” game, it was still fun to go.

August 30 was the day of my brother’s wedding.  It was pouring rain while we were getting ready and it seemed like rain might happen while the (outdoor) wedding was going to take place, but fortunately the rain stopped by the time we got to the wedding site and we were able to have good weather for the ceremony and some pictures after.

September 7, my mom, Scott, and a friend of mine went out to Madison for their NEDA walk.  It was my second one that I went to and still a very important event to be at.  This time, I was in a much different place than the last time and had a greater purpose and understanding of the significance of being there.  Plus, I felt the unity of those who suffer from eating disorders and while our struggles are all different, we all have a commonality.  It was a really powerful feeling and experience.

At the beginning of October, things were definitely at a really low place as far as my relationship with Scott.  I was having a really rough time with being on my own and dealing with everything going on.  My parents had been absolutely fabulous to me and really took me under their wing.  I also had been wanting to plan a trip with my parents for a while, and we had planned going to Galena for a little weekend getaway.  I was debating whether to cancel since I felt like I’d be no fun since I was definitely struggling with everything dealing with Scott, but we ended up deciding to go.  I’m really glad that we did.  It was a great distraction.

Toward the end of October, things were definitely at a really low place as far as my relationship with Scott.  The divorce process was underway.  My family and friends definitely stepped up and rose to the occasion, being wonderful support and strength to me through it all.  I took some PTO at work to spend some time with my brother and his wife, which I really loved and enjoyed.

At the end of November, we went to the symphony again, although this time Jessa was along and it was her first experience ever going to a performance like that.  She absolutely loved it.  Plus this time, they had the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus perform as well, which made the show that much more enjoyable.

Around Thanksgiving time, I planned a surprise trip down to Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina with Scott.  Plus, the main “surprise” was the Clemson versus South Carolina game.  We had a wonderful time together.

The middle of December was my first business trip ever AND my first time traveling alone!  I had a trip scheduled to Philadelphia for a claims adjuster licensing course.  It was a huge trip for me in many ways and it went as perfectly as it could have.  I am so glad that I decided to go and believe in myself.

This year I enjoyed spending a lot of time with my family and friends.  My relationship with Scott neared its end.  We actually filed for divorce, but I was not willing to just give up on us.  As a result of my efforts and persistence in not giving up on us prematurely, Scott realized just how serious I was about us and making our marriage work.  As a result, he also realized that he could give more to our relationship as well.  Things have been improving greatly, more and more each day.  He has really taken things seriously and has been making huge changes and improvements.  I am so thankful for our relationship being where it’s at today.  My marriage means so much to me and I can’t imagine having lost that and having lost Scott.

Here are some of my other favorite pictures from the year:

That, folks, is my 2013 in review.  I already have some exciting things planned for 2014 and I’m super excited to jump right in!  Hope you all had some great memories and experiences in 2013 and are ready to welcome the new year!

Focusing on the Marvelous (MIMM)

It feels like I have been a stranger in the blogging world lately!  It’s been quite a while since I’ve taken the time to sit down and write.  Part of me has been pretty much failing to find any words worth typing.  I’ve lost a bit of my inspiration and desire lately…plus I’ve been pretty busy and just let other things take precedent over blogging.  But that being said, I miss it…a lot.  Blogging was one thing I did for myself and really benefit from and when I started crowding it out of my life, I felt the difference.  I didn’t feel as connected or rooted in my life.  I think blogging gives me time to just focus on my life and what’s going on, instead of running around like a crazy person.  It centers me and grounds me.

So I will probably try to get into a deeper post in the near future, but for now, I’ll share some happiness highlights and hook up with Katie over at Healthy Diva Eats for my favorite link-up of the week…Marvelous in My Monday.  So without further ado, let’s get this party started…

Marvelous is taking a half day on Friday to go meet up with my brother and his wife for the afternoon.  Our initial plans kind of fell apart, but we still made the best of it and ended up having a really fun time, after all.  We went to the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee and took a wonderful hike.  The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for a hike.  It was sunny, windy, and around 45-50 degrees.  After hiking, the initial cool breeze felt really welcomed and helped keep us comfortable for our hike.

After our hike, we went for a late lunch.  Marvelous is…a big bowl of PHO!  My brother loves loves loves pho.  🙂  Jessa also got a durian smoothie…a very marvelous treat for her.  Durian is a fruit from back home in the Philippines which is a much-loved food that is eaten very often there.  But the catch?!  It is the MOST disgusting thing EVER.  The stench of it is so repulsive and the taste…oh…the taste is awful.  For anyone who does not live there and grows up with it, you would never in a million years have the taste for it.  If you are curious about just how stinky it is…check out this short video on youtube.  It is so worth it.  I laughed SO hard.

I love this picture.  I think it’s because of the naturalness of it.  No forced smiles, no staged appearances.  Just…natural.  They’re diving into the limes right now haha

We had a really fun afternoon together.  It was definitely a much needed break from work and a great distraction from all the other stuff going on in my life right now.  That evening, I went over by my parents for a bit to watch NYPD Blue, then my brother and Jessa came over by my place to watch Full House.  Jessa caught a few episodes and loved it…and obviously my brother and I grew up with it, so it was fun to watch it again.  It’s a cute show.

Saturday was pretty marvelous.  I slept in late (9:15, I’m talking…and that is late for me!)  I had a slow start, just drinking my coffee.  Then headed out to Target.  I ended up hitting the jackpot!  I have been looking for some pants for work for the looooongest time.  Me being short, I can’t find pants that aren’t baggy at my feet.  All the pants I had been finding were either baggy in the legs, baggy by my feet, or baggy in my toosh area.  But I FINALLY found some pants that fit me perfectly!  I snatched as many as I could snag! 🙂  Plus I got some really snuggly sweaters.  I am such a huge fan of sweaters! 🙂  So it was a huge success!

After that I met up with a dear friend of mine that I haven’t seen in so long.  She was actually a bridesmaid in my wedding.  Marvelous is…catching up with an old friend over coffee.  This was the first chance I had to tell her about the divorce and she was so wonderfully supportive.  I am so glad we had a chance to get together and talk.  She’s a dear friend and I hope I’m able to spend more time with her instead of letting life get in the way.

I spent the rest of my day and night with myself.  It was actually much needed.  I did some tae bo.  Guys, I have seriously MISSED tae bo.  This used to be my go-to workout back in the day, and I hadn’t done it in forever.  But man-oh-man did I miss it and it is SUCH a good workout!  I’ve been doing it as much as I can the last week and I am loving it.  Not only is it a great workout but it is super therapeutic, too!  Billy Blanks is the man! 🙂

After my workout, I decided to whip up a batch of these fabulous cookies!  I made some changes to the original recipe, but only small tweaks.  Nom nom nom.  I seriously could have eaten the whole batch of cookie dough and not made the cookies.  Marvelous is…baking and having the WHOLE house smell like pumpkin!

After making my cookies, I was going to run to the store to grab some sushi for din din…but before I left, I saw how gorgeous the sky was looking, so I grabbed my camera before I hit the road.  That was the best decision I could have made.  I ended up driving and driving and driving just taking in the gorgeous sunset.  It started off beautifully, then just got more gorgeous as time went on.  I drove around some hilly areas near where I live just to try and get the best views I could.  It was not an expected outing, but I really enjoyed it…and got some gorgeous shots, too!  Marvelous is…unexpected journeys and gorgeous sunsets.

After returning home from my escapade and the grocery store, I hunkered down on the couch with a book I recently got from Amazon, Lessons from the End of a Marriage, by Lisa Arends.  I am so so so happy that this wonderful lady found one of my blog posts and made contact with me.  That allowed me to find her blog and receive such hope and inspiration.  Her story is absolutely heartbreaking.  I was in such shock when I started reading about what happened to her and knew I needed to get her book.  I can’t wait to keep reading and follow her on her journey of processing the loss of her husband in the worst way possible, picking up the pieces, moving forward, and becoming a better and stronger person in the end.  It also shows me that others can truly identify with what I’m going through and that if they are able to come out on the other side, I most certainly can, too!

I spent the remainder of the evening watching Knocked Up, which was actually a pretty good movie!  I was pleasantly surprised.  Sunday morning was another lazy start to the day, filled with blogging and drinking coffee. The rest of the day consisted of errands, laundry, a visit to church {(more on that at another time)} a nice walk outside, and the Packers game!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and a Marvelous Monday!!! ❤

Keeping Monday Marvelous

In all honesty, I haven’t been in the mood to blog.  This has been the last thing on my mind and even when it did come to mind, I lost all desire or incentive to sit down and actually start writing something.  Frankly, I’m kind of forcing these words right now, but I usually really enjoy it when life is going good for me, so I want to try and focus on doing things that I enjoy, now more than ever.  So, in honor of that, I’m sitting here and typing, and hooking up for one of my favorites, with Katie, to focus on the Marvelous in My Monday.  A big thank you for making this positive link-up possible!

Where to begin?  Well I’ll be short and sweet about how rough the last week or so has been for me.  On September 20th, my husband told me that he didn’t want to be married to me anymore and that divorce was the best route to take.  Granted, our marriage has been rocky since day one, sadly.  Between my personal issues, his personal issues, and our inability to really work well as a couple, we had rough moments right from the beginning.  We took some time to figure ourselves out; working on our individual demons that prevented us from really being able to focus on our relationship with one another.  I came back with a new sense of desire to make our relationship work and he…well, he didn’t.  Simply put, he just didn’t think we’d ever have the type of relationship that a married couple should.  So accepting the reality of that decision, the reality that divorce is in my future, was a really hard pill to swallow.  Truthfully, I don’t think I’ve really fully processed it yet.  I mean I accept that it’s happening, but just all of the steps moving forward will be so much to tackle.  But I’ll get there, in time.  That can all be figured out in time.  I am extremely thankful that we are not going to proceed with a messy divorce, though.  I’ve heard horror stories about divorce and that is not how we want things to go down.  We want to be as amicable as possible and end things as easily on ourselves and one another as possible.  Which I am really thankful for.

quotes like this have been so marvelously helpful

To top that off, a few days ago I came home at night to a facebook message from my best friend, Rachel, which basically bluntly stated that we could not be friends anymore.  In part she said how her health is suffering and she needs to put herself first.  She indicated she couldn’t take care of herself and be there for me, since she needs to focus on her recovery (we met in treatment for our eating disorders) and said that we shouldn’t speak anymore.  In a matter of a week, I lost the two closest people I have in my life.

Needless to say, life has been pretty downright rough for me lately.  But I’ve been fortunate to have some people in my life who care so much about me and have been offering me help and support.  My parents have been so marvelous to me.  I think I have spent sometime with them every day in the past week.  Each evening, I’ve gone over there after work, and this weekend I spent time with them each day.  They have been so amazing to me, truly just offering me the ability to talk to them or share anything with them that may be on my mind, or just being there to watch TV with them without talking at all, when words just fail me.  I have been so appreciative of them.

We spent the afternoon together on Saturday and went to Cedarburg, a cute little town near where we live, for lunch and walking around the shops in town.  The weather was absolutely gorgeous.  It was sunny and around 80 degrees.  You seriously can’t do any better than that for end of September in Wisconsin!  We ate lunch at a place called Cream & Crepe (where, surprise surprise, their specialty are crepes).  My parents got some delicious crepes for lunch and I got a sandwich.  Then we all split their dessert crepe which is on special now, PUMPKIN!  Mmm…it was heavenly!

I also have an amazing co-worker who has been nothing short of marvelous to me.  He has been so supportive and has just been a real anchor for me at work.  It’s been rough being able to focus and concentrate at work, and sometimes I just need someone to talk to or vent to or just to know what I’m going through, and he is always there for me.  He, like everyone else, wishes they could do for me or help me more.  But just having him there means the world to me.  He truly is like a second father to me.  I really believe he would do anything for me.  This week, twice, he surprised me with two little pick-me-ups.

My little booger, i.e. Dexter, has been such a comfort to me lately.  He is my little com-padre.  It’s like he knows I’m going through a hard time right now.  One day I remember just sitting on the floor and crying and he came right over to me, snuggling up next to me, and parked himself right on the floor next to me.  He’s been good to snuggle with at night.  Plus, he’s been good for some laughs, too.  He was super interested and curious about the flowers when I brought them home from work.  First he stopped to smell the flowers (haha, I’m witty, I know) and then he started to devour them…camera went down shortly after, Dexter snatched, and flowers moved to the kitchen counter where he can’t get to.

My dad was telling me about how this time of year he loves anything caramel and apple flavored.  Since I’ve been trying to keep myself busy (and my mind busy) and since I had some extra time on Saturday, I thought I would try and bake something caramel apple-y.  So when I got back from Cedarburg with my parents, I started searching for a recipe that I could make.  I found a lot of good options, but ended up choosing the Caramel Apple Oatmeal Cookie recipe I found.  I ran to the store to get a few of the ingredients I didn’t have and then started in!

This recipe was AH-MAZING!  Oh my goodness.  AND they were a big hit!  Later that night, the family was invited over to my brother’s place to watch a movie and I brought my ‘surprise’ over to give more than half the batch to my dad (and obviously shared with my mom, brother, and his wife, too!)  He was so excited!  Everyone loved ’em, too!  I think I found a new go-to cookie recipe.  Mmhmm.  My brother even asked if I could make another batch again this week, haha.

So despite all the chaos in my life right now, I’ve been fortunate enough to have some really fabulous family and friends who have been so supportive and strengthening me.  It doesn’t really make the pain go away, but it does help me to get my mind off of things and serves as a distraction.  I am so thankful to have some people in my world who will always stand by me and never leave me, no matter what challenges and hardships come my way.  Life may not be what I’d like it to be right now, but I’m trying my hardest to keep my chin up.  It’s hard.  Some days and some moments I just feel miserable.  But I will keep pushing forward and doing the best I can to live my life now and to rebuild and repair.
