Scenes from the weekend (MIMM)

Life has been pretty busy the last few weeks, as we have been looking for a new place for both my husband and I as well as his mom.  There’s been a lot going on with that for us, but I’ve still been able to find some down time to do some fun things.  So I’ll do a little update on life lately and share some of the weekend highlights for this weeks Marvelous in my Monday.

For starters I got a package in the mail from a dear friend I recently made with a lady living on the other side of the country.  It was such a meaningful package…the card was too sweet and the little stuffed animal was really symbolic and also very personal.

I will probably end up bringing this little guy to work with me and keeping it in my desk for “those moments” when it’s needed 🙂  The work weeks have been flying by as a lot of the evenings have been dedicated to finding new places to look at and moving-related things.  We finally found a place that we really like and are hoping to get!  We submitted our rental application and now wait to hear back if we’re chosen to fill the place.  We should hear within a week but I have a feeling we’re going to be a little anxious until we hear for sure one way or the other.  So we’ll see..

Friday night I got the chance to hang out with my brother and my sister-in-law and it was sooo overdue.  I haven’t had much of a chance to really spend a lot of time with them lately so it was really nice to do so again.  Plus the weather was PERFECT!  We went to the Milwaukee County Zoo for their Zoo a la Carte.  It was their 30th year of doing it.  They have different music and food and drink vendors that take over the zoo in the evenings.  It was a really fun time and a great way to spend a gorgeous night at the end of the week!

It was totally a fun evening and just what I needed.  Scott was already asleep by the time I got home since he had an early morning on Saturday.  I got to sleep in a little bit, which for me was 7:30 hah!  But I’ll take whatever I can.  I got a great run/workout in in the morning, and also got some good quality time with my little Meeko.  She is such a crazy, hyper, wild kitty and even when she is snuggly, she can’t sit still.  But I love her to pieces.

I got a chance to read a while, too, which was really nice.  My morning quickly disappeared and I decided to meet up with Scott to help him pack and move some of his mom’s things into storage.  It was a hot, tiring afternoon.  Unfortunately his mom has not found a place to live permanently yet, so her things are all going into storage since she needs to be out of her house by the end of the month.  She will be staying with a friend for a while, but that means that when she does find a place, we will need to move all of her things AGAIN.  She has SOOOO much stuff! 😦  And soon Scott and I will need to pack up all of our things and move, too.  Oy.  It’s going to be an exhausting and super stressful next few months.

After spending a few hours moving, I called it a day and went to a local outdoor mall where they were having a chalk art festival.  I was really excited to check it out!  I had wanted to go last year, but found out about after the fact, so it was nice to be able to go this year!  It was so cool!  Some people did really really amazing work.  The sad thing is that it doesn’t last though :/  It’s such a shame.  Here were some of my favorites:

These people are so SO talented!  It was such a good end to the day. I also stopped at Bath and Body Works, which I always love doing, and picked up some awesome candles!  (If you don’t know, I LOVE candles!)

I spent the rest of the evening relaxing when I got back home and watched the new 21 Jump Street.  It was actually a better movie than I was expecting and enjoyed rounding out the day with the movie.

Sunday was nearly a pictureless day, yet again!  I had a slower start to the day, got in a GREAT run, ran some errands, went to church, and spent time over at Scott’s mom’s house.  The day went sooo quick and the weekend was over so fast.  I know this next week will be just another crazy whirlwind, too.  Busy, busy, busy.  Hopefully by the end of the week, Scott and I will know if we will have a new place or have to start/keep searching :/  To end the post on something happy and cute… as always, these little guys do it. Dexter is such a great big brother 🙂

take me out to the ball game x 2…and the zoo

I am so glad that it’s time for some Marvelous talk for the week.  Earlier in the week things were NOT at all going well and I had a pretty rough week.  I will save all the ‘meh’ not so marvelous things for another post in the future, but for now I will share some of the highlights I did have and focus on those happy, positive moments!  My favorite link-up of the week and one I do my best never to miss!

Friday was our company tailgate party and Brewers’ game outing.  We got to leave work early (at 3) to hang out on our back patio and eat and drink and socialize.  I’d like to say that I was very productive up until that point, but let’s be honest here, I definitely was not.  I think up until about noon I did a pretty good job of actually getting real work done.  But, shortly after that I was commissioned to make a decorative box to hold napkins since it was a bit on the windy side and they’d blow away.  I made a blue and yellow decorative box.  Nothing fancy, but I did the best I could with just a box, tape and table covers.  After my box was made, I helped chop up some fresh fruit…set up the tables outside and then before I knew it, the day was over.  Not a bad way to end the week.

That was about half way through.  I know it doesn’t look too impressive now but I made an awesome blue and yellow checkered pattern when it was all said and done.  Not too shabby.  Plus, it was fun.  I was so into the box making that I totally neglected to watch the time…so I ran down to the cafeteria and got my lunch to eat while I worked on the box.  The weather was absolutely awesome (thankfully!) and I chatted with some co-workers before Scott, my brother and sister-in-law (the guests I invited along) showed up.  Then it was time to eattttt!  There was so much food!  I got a good starter plate and then Scott and I shared some cookies after 😉

Plus, as you can see in the picture, there were plenty of drinks, too.  The spread was pretty sweet.  The food was delicious.  We loaded up the bus to head down to the stadium for the game!  They gave away free t-shirts at the game, so that was pretty sweet.  We ended up losing 😦 but it was still a really good game!  We all had a really fun time!  Took some silly pictures, too 🙂

We also got a long island and got this cute little cup. I’ve been obsessed with it ever since and I am using it for pretty much anything and everything.  Milk, soda, cereal…you name it.  It’s too cute!

Saturday morning I got up bright and early.  I didn’t get to bed until 2 am (we got home late from the game and then I needed some wind down time) and woke up shortly after 7.  So, I decided I’d get a workout in since that was the rest of the day was really booked up.  It felt good to start off the day that way.  I may try and make that a new thing…  After my workout, I showered and had a little time to sit and drink coffee before Scott and I had something to tend to in the morning.  We’ve been trying to make some progress with the religious side of our lives and met up with a couple that have been helping answer some questions and cultivate a stronger relationship with God.  The weather was gorgeous so we spent as much time outside in the sun as possible!

We got home around 12:30, I quickly made some lunch and then my brother and sister-in-law came to pick me up to go to the zoo!  Scott had some things to work on at his mom’s place, so he skipped out.  But we sure had a fun time and the weather was PERFECT.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather!

We got to pet some sting rays and sharks, too at their special exhibit.  It was a fun time.  We quickly got our tooshies heading home to meet up with Scott.  Friday at work I entered a raffle to win four free tickets for the Saturday night Brewers’ game and I won!  We picked Scott up, went to Panda Express for dinner…It was really good!  I hadn’t been there in so long!

Then made our way down to the stadium.  We all wore our shirts that we got the night before.  The game was awesome!  They were down and it wasn’t looking too good, but then they really came back at the end and ended up being up 4 to 2 heading into the 9th inning where they were able to hold them from scoring!  What a great game and fun night.

The game started at 6:15, which is about an hour earlier than it usually does…but that worked out great since we got home at a reasonable time.  Scott and I just spent the evening relaxing and watching Parks n Rec.  Great day.

Sunday started similarly to Saturday for me.  I slept a bit longer than the previous night but was still up early.  So I decided to do another morning workout and got it out of the way for the day.  It was great!  I definitely like starting my day off that way.  It just puts me in a great mood for the day.  Scott and I enjoyed some time out on the balcony soaking up the gorgeous weather.  We talked about our upcoming trip to Colorado!  It is coming SOO fast…just a couple weeks away now!  YIPPIE!  So we decided it was time to start planning where we’d go specifically and the things we may need to bring with us.  The kitties also joined us… 😉  Meeko came out on her own!  She had only been out there one other time with me and she was a little skittish, so it was nice to see that she’s getting a bit more comfortable with it.

The rest of the day was laundry, grocery shopping, church, food prep for the week and baking some banana bread bars.  One of my favorite recipes and super easy to make.  It was the perfect quiet end to the weekend which I REALLY wanted after being busy for the rest of the weekend.  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, too!

Living for the good times (MIMM)

Sadly, the windchills are actually going to get WORSE than this in the next couple days.  I’ve heard close to -50 degrees windchill temperature!  Whaaa?!?

So I am trying to keep my spirits up, but man it is hard!  So I suppose this is a good time to try and focus on the marvelous things…thank you Katie for always helping us to remember to see the positives!

So as I talked about in my last post, I haven’t been feeling that well lately.  Some days have been absolutely miserable for me, some moments in the day have been worse than others.  But I’ve also had moments where I’ve felt pretty good, too.  I’ve been loving those moments.  It truly makes me appreciate the importance of feeling good and healthy.  Any time I feel good, I am so thankful.  I’ve been able to enjoy some fun times lately, too.

This was the gorgeous sunset after work on Friday.  (I actually pulled over a few different times on the drive home to take some pictures!)

Friday night, Scott’s mom hosted an Orange Bowl party at her place.  Scott invited a bunch of his co-workers over to watch the game.  It was a big game that Scott (and I) both cared about since Clemson was playing!  It was such a good game.  They were neck-in-neck with Ohio State for the duration of the whole game.  The last few minutes of the game were amazing and an interception with about a minute and a half left on the clock by Clemson sealed the deal.  We won!!!!  40 to 35!!!!

That got the weekend off to a great start!  We were both super excited about our win.  Saturday morning was a nice lazy start to the day.  I did some yoga in the morning, too.  Since I’ve been feeling so crummy lately, I haven’t been working out at all.  It’s the last thing that I feel like doing.  But I did yoga on Thursday, and then again on Saturday.  It was the first time in a LONG time that I’d done yoga.  I quickly remembered just how much I love it.  It’s sad that I let it get trumped by more “intensive” workouts, since it was something I truly enjoyed and felt to be therapeutic for me.  But, I’m actually glad that I’ve gravitated back to it (although it wasn’t necessarily by choice).  Yet I’m happy about it.  I feel absolutely amazing afterward.  So I definitely want to keep working on yoga, especially while I am unable to do anything more physical/active right now.

After a slow, relaxing morning, it was time to meet up with my brother, his wife, and some of his friends.  We made plans to head to the zoo for their family free day.  The weather was actually “warm” around 30, so we wanted to make use of the decent weather before it got bitter cold in the coming days.  It was a really nice time!

I’ve only been around Travis and Jessa’s friends, Peter and Faith, one other time, which was at my brother’s wedding.  But seriously, that guy is the most hilarious person ever.  I was laughing like crazy the whole time.  Too funny!

I had a really fun time with them.  It was definitely a good time to go and get my mind off things, especially because I was actually feeling pretty good, too!  So I could actually really enjoy myself fully.  That was really rewarding.  I came home and relaxed a bit, catching up on some emails, etc.  This has been happening A LOT lately…

Dexter LOVES to plop himself down right on me when I’m working on the laptop.  And I’m not saying just my lap, he will literally sit right on my arms if I’m typing.  Since he’s a bit of a chubby cat, my arms would literally fall asleep if he sits there too long, so I always have to pull my arms out from under him and do my best to type OVER him.  It’s absolutely impossible for me to get frustrated with him, even if it is a bit inconvenient when I’m trying to work on something.  It definitely makes me feel loved knowing he wants to snuggle with me. 🙂  Plus, look at that face…how could I ever get upset with him?!  I love that cat more than anything.

At church Sunday, Scott did something absolutely adorable.  It’s things like this that I absolutely love.  It’s something so small and simple, but it shows me that he’s thinking about me.  He asked for my hand and slipped a little folded up piece of paper under my wedding ring.  He wrote me a little note 🙂

It’s kind of an inside joke of ours.  When we weren’t saying ‘i love you’ to each other, we’d say ‘i’m pretty fond of you’.   It was kind of our cute little way of saying we really liked each other, but weren’t at the point where we wanted to say i love you yet.  So this note was adorable, because now we are both saying I love you to each other.  After all that we’ve been through in the past few months, hearing him tell me (or reading it) that he loves me, means so much to me.  🙂

The end of my weekend consists of watching the Packers game and Breaking Bad.  Scott and I are finally on the last season 😦  It’s a bittersweet feeling.  I’m excited to see how it ends, but then I’m also sad to see that it’s coming to an end, too.  What an awesome show!!!

Hope you all had a marvelous weekend and have a great Monday! ❤
